Application Brief: SafeGuard™ H2O Hexavalent Chromium Treatment System Demonstration at Joshua Basin Water District

In Fall 2022, the Joshua Basin Water District demonstrated the SafeGuard™ H2O technology to reduce Cr6 to non-detect levels. SafeGuard H2O proved to be a highly automated process that provided accurate and reliable in-situ stannous reagent generation to reduce Cr6 to below 1 ppb. The capability of SafeGuard H2O to consistently remove Cr6 to non-detect levels creates the opportunity for Joshua Basin Water District and other utilities to blend water from Cr6-contaminated wells and achieve overall system compliance. With SafeGuard H2O, the capital cost of bringing a system into Cr6 compliance can be mitigated by eliminating the need for treatment at all wells.

Application Brief: Isleton Water System Demonstrates In-situ Ferrous Generation Technology for Arsenic Remediation

SafeGuard™ H2O is an innovative arsenic treatment approach that generates a ferrous ion reagent in-situ via an electrolytic process to address arsenic contamination effectively and economically. The demonstration of SafeGuard™ H2O at California American Water’s Isleton Water System proved the effectiveness of the technology to mitigate total arsenic contamination in drinking water below 10 ppb, and its ability to deliver an affordable and reliable fully automated treatment process that does not require the use of bulk chemicals like conventional treatment approaches.

Report: Isleton, Calif. SafeGuard™ H2O Arsenic Treatment System

California American Water’s Isleton Water System underwent an evaluation of SafeGuard™ H2O, an intelligent arsenic remediation system manufactured by AMS. This innovative technology generates a ferrous ion reagent in-situ via an electrolytic process to address arsenic contamination. The objective of the project was to demonstrate the ability of the electrogenerated ferrous reagent produced on demand by the SafeGuard H2O system to remove arsenic from unchlorinated well water reliably and effectively. The SafeGuard H2O system consistently treated arsenic below 10 ppb and the technology’s modular design can be easily integrated with the facility’s existing coagulation/filtration system; replacing the use of liquid ferric chloride and providing the facility with operational and capital savings.

Report: Los Banos, California SafeGuard™ H2O Cr(VI) Treatment System

A SafeGuard™ H2O intelligent Cr(VI) remediation system demonstration unit with a treatment capacity of 10 gpm was installed with the City of Los Banos, California to evaluate the performance of the technology to treat Cr(VI) to non-detect levels (under 1 ppb) in unchlorinated well water.  SafeGuard H2O is an innovative technology based on a proprietary approach that generates on demand a stannous ion reagent in-situ via an electrolytic process. The demonstration with Los Banos confirmed the technology’s efficacy and third-party validation of the SafeGuard H2O system as a cost-effective alternative to traditional Cr(VI) treatment systems. Results are detailed.

Case Study: TRUMPF Optimizes Ion Exchange System With Reliable and Continuous Data From Real-Time Arsenic Analyzer

Faced with high IEX process waste disposal costs, TRUMPF, a manufacturer of laser diodes made from Gallium Arsenide substrates (GaAs) wafers, undertook efforts to optimize the IEX process and produce less hazardous waste. One of the process improvements included the installation of the MetalGuard Arsenic online arsenic analyzer to continuously measure influent and effluent arsenic levels in real-time, providing TRUMPF with a stream of accurate and reliable arsenic data to measure the performance of its IEX system and ensure regulatory compliance. Timely and accurate arsenic results enabled TRUMPF to optimize rinse water reuse as well as to optimize and reduce IEX backwash frequencies, increasing media performance and reducing hazardous waste generation. These process improvements have resulted in an estimated annual cost savings of $100K for the facility.
