AMS Talks: Managing Heavy Metal Exceedances
In this episode of AMS Talks, industry consultant and special guest host Nadia Abboud sits down with Rocio Flores, Water Quality Engineer for Golden State Water Company. Rocio shares valuable insights into how Golden State Water has been tackling the challenge of managing a groundwater source with selenium concentrations that exceed the Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) for their Edna Road System. Watch this interview for an insightful look into managing heavy metal exceedances in areas with limited water sources and the value of investing in real-time selenium monitoring to support the treatment process.
View ResourceReport: The Power of Ferrate(VI)
The potential of ferrate, specifically Ferrate(VI), a supercharged form of iron with a +6 oxidation state, as an advanced oxidant for water and wastewater treatment is widely documented. While the use of ferrates has been limited due to synthesis difficulties and inherent instability, AMS has developed a novel system for on-site production of Ferrate(VI) to address this limitation. Examining the history of oxidation in water treatment and the role of advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) in oxidizing complex organic constituents, it is evident that Ferrate(VI) can be a strong oxidant with a higher oxidation potential than ozone and chlorine. Despite challenges in treating stubborn organics and the need for efficient and economical AOPs, ongoing study and consideration for Ferrate as an AOP option will reshape the paradigm of advanced oxidation for water and wastewater treatment.

Application Brief: Real-time THM Data Optimizes Wastewater Treatment in Paso Robles
The City of Paso Robles, California, used an online THM analyzer capable of low-level real-time detection of DBCM and BDCM to help characterize and monitor THMs in its treated wastewater for groundwater recharge use. The high frequency of reliable and accurate THM data provided by the THM-100™ proved essential to the City’s DBP strategy to maintain regulatory compliance with NPDES permit levels.
