Application Brief: Real-time Fluoride Measurement in Petrochemical Industry

British Petroleum (BP) replaced one of its existing Tytronics online fluoride analyzers at the Castellón refinery in Spain with the online Instran® Fluoride analyzer. Monitoring fluoride levels in real-time with a reliable and accurate online water quality analyzer is integral to maintaining safety of the alkylation zone and overall refinery. Since its installation in January 2022, the Instran analyzer has been operating continuously and has met the facility’s needs to monitor fluoride levels in real-time within the alkylation zone.

Application Brief: Isleton Water System Demonstrates In-situ Ferrous Generation Technology for Arsenic Remediation

SafeGuard™ H2O is an innovative arsenic treatment approach that generates a ferrous ion reagent in-situ via an electrolytic process to address arsenic contamination effectively and economically. The demonstration of SafeGuard™ H2O at California American Water’s Isleton Water System proved the effectiveness of the technology to mitigate total arsenic contamination in drinking water below 10 ppb, and its ability to deliver an affordable and reliable fully automated treatment process that does not require the use of bulk chemicals like conventional treatment approaches.

Application Brief: Real-Time THM Data Support Gilbert’s Commitment to Water Quality

The town of Gilbert, Arizona, has been using real-time trihalomethane (THM) data from the online THM analyzer, THM-100™, since October 2017 to manage DBPs within its extensive network. The online THM-100 analyzer has acted as the brains of the THM remediation efforts across Gilbert’s reservoirs and pumping stations, providing operational certainty that the town did not have before.

Application Brief: Research Shows That AMS’ Online THM Monitoring Technology Is a Viable Method to Accurately Predict THM Precursor Content and Network THM Levels

A research project collaboration between the Water and Energy Technology Center at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Ma., and AMS tested a novel method for near real-time analysis of disinfection byproduct precursors and natural organic matter properties in water supplies. AMS’ online trihalomethane (THM) and THM Formation Potential (THM-FP) monitoring technology was shown to be a viable method to predict THM precursor content and network THM levels accurately. The collaboration was funded by the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center.

Application Brief: Real-Time THM Data Helped City of San Luis Obispo Achieve DBP Compliance

Real-time trihalomethane (THM) data from the online analyzer, THM-100™, has helped the City of San Luis Obispo to achieve DBP compliance, optimize its aeration process, and ensure public safety. In 2014 and 2015, the City of San Luis Obispo experienced high THM levels and staff began to research processes and practices that could head-off high THM recurrences. To ensure DBP regulatory compliance, the city chose in-tank aeration to mitigate THMs. While effective in removing THMs, in-tank aeration is a high-energy consumption process. Spending approximately $10K per month on power, San Luis Obispo began searching for an effective solution that would help reduce energy expenses while optimizing the treatment process and making it more cost-efficient. The online THM analyzer from AMS was valuable for aeration treatment system design, establishing continuous real-time THM data as vital assets in meeting regulatory compliance and protecting public health.

Application Brief: Advocating for Real-Time Monitoring Solutions to Detect Lead in Drinking Water

Lead contamination in drinking water presents a serious threat to human health. While utilities monitor for lead by sampling infrequently only a small number of domestic points of use, these traditional lead monitoring programs lack the ability to measure the presence of all forms of lead; capture unpredictable changes in water quality that result in lead corrosion; and report the contamination risk before the water is delivered to the customer. MetalGuard™ Lead Alert!™ from AMS is designed to offer communities real-time, continuous and dynamic water quality assessment of the presence of total lead in buildings or zones exposed to events that are the cause of acute lead contamination to reduce the risk of exposure.
